About Video Poker
Video poker is one of the newest and most exciting new forms of modern day gambling. The game of poker is a table based card game that has been popular for the last few centuries and is probably the most famous, popular and most played of all card games. Everyone knows the name poker although not as many people know how to play the actual game. Luckily video poker is a lot easier to understand and even easier to play so its no wonder that video poker is one of the most popular modern day gambling games available.
Video poker was first invented in the early nineteen seventies. Technology had advanced far enough that it was possible to combine a television monitor with a built in digital processing unit. Video poker was popular right from the start. Video poker is especially popular with players who prefer easier, low risk and low odds type games like at the Platinum Play casino. Video poker is one of the few digital type card based games where it is possible for the player to enjoy an advantage as opposed to the house, who normally enjoys the so called ‘house advantage’.
How Video Poker Works
The first video poker machines that were introduced and became popular with the general public in the mid-seventies were coin operated. Most of today’s modern higher technology video poker machines use a card style credit method, this entails the use of a pre-paid plastic or paper card being inserted and ‘read’ by the video poker’s processing unit. This new system makes it a lot easier and a lot more convenient, both for game supplier as well as the player who no longer has to deal with cumbersome coins anymore.
Once the player has inserted their card into a video poker machine they can place a bet, selecting one or more credits. Once the bet has been placed the player can then push a button to initiate that round of play, the button is usually called a ‘bet’ or ‘deal’ button. The machine then deals a series of cards, the player can then discard any cards they do not want and replace them with fresh cards. If the hand dealt matches any hands in the pay table it is a winning hand and the player wins credits.
